A Caring Community

Serving God has always meant loving God's children.

Caring

Caring is built on countless little acts of concern:  note cards sent to people who are sick, a warm welcome as you share a pew in worship, a hug for someone crying, a patient listening ear.

Our caring community is built on the Lutheran understanding of baptism.  We are all priests through the love of Christ.  We are all ministers who serve in Christ's name.  We are all disciples who bear witness to our Lord.  Together, we all work to make our community "caring."

Caring for Others

St. Michael continually cares for others, and  we extend that care great distances.  Our Missions Team regularly ship books, clothing, school supplies and other items to our global mission partners in Papua, New Guinea.  Our Quilters regularly provide over 300 quilts a year to Lutheran World Relief for distribution to refugees around the world.  Our Community Outreach ministry delivers food to hundreds of people each week and provides holiday food boxes for thousands of people each Thanksgiving and Christmas.

In addition to these on-going ministries, the congregation has also begun helping a New Orleans family resettle after losing everything in Hurricane Katrina.

Caring for Each Other

People in this congregation enjoy wonderful, supporting relationships.  There are many family connections and deep friendships.  This is the foundation for how we care for each other.

While we all share this important work, there are some places where pastors have greater access.  Our pastors are committed to providing pastoral visitation in the following circumstances:

  • Major Life Transitions: marriage, birth, death, etc.

  • Crisis Care: hospitalizations, surgery, cancer treatments, depression, separation and divorce, substance abuse, grief, etc.

  • Homebound Care: long-term care for persons with limited abilities.
